Moore, Patricia M. “Pat”

Moore, Patricia “Pat” M., passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, March 25th, 2018 at The Bluffs in Columbia, MO. She was 90 years old. Born to Alice and Harold Lecour on May 24, 1927 in Jamaica, NY, Pat was one of four children. The most noted memories from her childhood in New York are her devotion to her baby sister, Mary Alice (13 years her junior), and she was remembered as vastly different from her “wild” sister Jane. She also produced a complete newspaper with her girlfriends, which they distributed throughout their neighborhood. She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Robert “Bob” W. Moore, on December 30, 1948 in Port Washington, NY at the age of 21. Their marriage happily saw the birth of two sons and two daughters. She was a loving and compassionate mother, wife, sister and daughter, whose dedication to her family never waivered. Over the years, as Bob’s career with Mobil Oil moved the family from Virginia to Missouri, she worked outside the home in retail. She specialized in the china department, which suited her love of fine china and crystal. She also focused happily on her role as an accomplished homemaker/AKA Domestic Goddess. Pat’s hobbies included playing bridge and competitive bowling. She had a short poem published in The Great American Poetry Anthology. Her children’s fondest memories of their upbringing include family trips to the beach, Pat and Bob dressing up for a night out on the town, date nights in the early years, and countless experiences now held tightly in our hearts. In retirement, Pat and Bob fully embraced the joys of grandparenthood, often hitting the road, opening their home, and boarding the Amtrak to spend time with their nine grandchildren (while making plenty of time for traveling the world on their own). Life’s heartbreaks did not discriminate over the years, as Pat survived the most important men in her life; her husband Bob passed away in 2003, and, sadly, her sons Jeffrey (2006) and Christopher (2012) left this world far too soon. Amidst this loss, and prior to it, Pat became a great-grandmother, and was always happiest when her home was full of family. She was dealt another blow when her daughter Pam, then a physical therapist, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. She was so very proud of her sons, daughters, and grandchildren. In 2012, her health declining, Pat moved to Columbia, MO to the closer to her daughter Kathryn. Pat’s final two years were spent at The Bluffs nursing home. Pat became known as a cheerful, sweet and funny resident, cherished by all who knew and cared for her. Although she missed her home in St. Louis, and the decision to move her was the most difficult decision her daughters have ever made, her care and quality of life were paramount. May she rest in peace with her Lord and Savior, as this amazing woman deserves nothing less. Pat is survived by her sister Mary Alice Michalek of Fort Meyers, FL, daughters Pamela (Thomas) Booth of Driggs, ID and Kathryn (Rockford) Reece of New Bloomfield, MO, daughter in law Pat Moore, grandchildren Jeffrey (Andrea) Moore, Jr., Brian Booth, Zachery Moore (Patrick Henroid), Mary (Tony) McCormac, Carly (Troy) Oppie, Alison (Rick) Vasquez, Sarah (Jason) Houts, Jesse Reece, Andrew Moore, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services: Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, April 2, 2017 at Kutis South County Chapel (5255 Lemay Ferry Road, Mehlville, MO 63129). A memorial mass will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, April 3 at Mary, Mother of the Church (5901 Kerth Road, St. Louis, MO 63128), followed by burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery (2900 Sheridan Road, St. Louis). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Pat’s name to The Bluffs, a not-for-profit skilled nursing facility at 3105 Bluff Creek Drive, Columbia, MO 65201, or the Parkinson’s Foundation ( http://parkinson.org/ways-to-give).

Dorthy Lela Reed (nee Price) daughter of the late Grace Roberts & John Price was born in Reynolds County, Missouri, on December 11, 1925.  She departed this life at Saint Anthony’s Medical Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, on March 28, 2018 at the age of 92.

Dorthy was married to the late Raymond Reed for 35 years.  She had 6 children, Sonny, Jeff, Deborah, Diana, George, and Rayetta.  She was a lifelong member of Apostolic Pentecostal Church.  Dorthy loved God and her family with all her heart.  She was very dedicated and made many sacrifices for her family ensuring they knew she loved them.

My goodness was she a dedicated worker, during the 48 years she was in the workforce she managed to work for over 28 companies starting with Superior Laundry at 16.  During WWII she was “Rosie the Riveter” working for Curtis-Wright riveting the wing flaps of B-52 Bombers, contributing to the war effort she worked for St. Louis Ordinance Plant as an inspector on tracer bullets.  For 6 years (with 2 of her sisters that retired there) she worked for Wonder Bread Bakery.  To list several more for posterity, she worked as a tailor for 3 different suit companies, labeled Southern Comfort Whiskey bottles, rolled Cigars for Cornelia Seed Co. She worked at X-cel Optical for 11 years starting at age 66, (WOW) filling optical lens orders, she was even a Police Officer for the City of Bunker, MO as Acting Chief.  During the Oil Shale boom of the 80’s she was a guard at the Unocal Retort & Refinery Shale Oil Project managed by Exxon in Parachute, Colorado.  She flagged traffic for the State of Colorado during the Hwy 70 Glenwood Springs Canyon expansion, she was your friendly Avon Lady, Mary Kay Lady, waitress, & barmaid.  What a cool working life, full of diverse and interesting experiences.

After retiring she volunteered at Feed My People Thrift Store and Food Pantry for 26 years, from November 08, 1988 to December 14, 2014.  Don’t forget to deduct three years during that time when she moved to Texas with her daughter Debbie, where she volunteered teaching the illiterate, and crocheting.

For hobbies WOW, also diverse, from deer and elk hunting in Aspen, Colorado (Woody Creek specifically) to avid fishing from Missouri to Michigan, Colorado, and Utah to name a few.  She loved Bible study, sewing, crocheting, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, playing canasta, Mahjong, and even computer games in her 80’s.  Pretty remarkable.
