Carolyn Sue Relling-Surrisi, 52, resident of Richmond Heights, Missouri, formerly of St. Charles and St. Louis, Missouri, passed away on April 26, 2020 after a brief but brave battle with cancer.  Carolyn was born in May, 1967 and grew up in St. Charles, the third of four daughters born to Robert Gregory and Betty Clare (Steele) Relling.  Carolyn’s life continues to be celebrated by her son Robert Michael “Robin” Surrisi, husband Michael O. Surrisi, stepdaughter Elizabeth Olano Minardi (Michael), sisters Maureen Relling Booth, Lisa Denman (Chris) and Sharon Bonnie Valle, nephews Tony Price (Angelina), Nick Johnson, Trevor Johnson, Jacob Booth, Josh Booth, Jem Booth, Cole Denman and Ranes Denman, and many aunts and cousins.  She is preceded in death by her parents, stepmother Mary Lou Relling, sister and dearest friend Sharon Relling Johnson and stepson Michael Omar Surrisi.  Carolyn will be greatly missed by her lifelong friend, Marie Schmich.  Finally, she will be missed around the tables of the recovery groups she attended and by the countless friends she acquired over her 24 years in sobriety.

Carolyn attended Metro High School and Roosevelt High School in St. Louis.  She worked in real estate and advertising and wrote for St. Louis Women on the Move magazine.  A woman of many talents, Carolyn wrote poetry and short stories and sang beautifully, performing with a local band.  She raised Robin to appreciate good movies and great music.  She could recall and quote lines from movies and books, beating anyone in the room at Trivial Pursuit.  Her quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Details of a memorial service to be held when it is safe for friends and family to travel will be announced at a later date.  Donations in Carolyn’s honor may be made to the addiction recovery organization or liberal political cause of your choice.

I HAVE WRITTEN MY OWN OBITUARY FOR MY 15 SECONDS OF FAME. I HAVE WRITTEN ABOUT THE THINGS THAT WERE IMPORTANT TO ME IN MY LIFE. ABOVE ALL, I ADORE MY FAMILY. THEY HAVE BEEN SO GOOD TO ME. I AM SO LUCKY. ALL MY LIFE I HAVE TRIED TO EMULATE MY MOTHER, WHO WAS PATIENT, KIND AND SO LOVING. I HOPE I DID A GOOD JOB FOR I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE IN HEAVEN. I’M SURE SOME SPACE COULD BE FOR ME.

DAUGHTER OF THE LATE ROWENA AND ALLEN BAER,LOVING WIFE OF GARY BRAKE, BELOVED MOTHER OF KIMBERLY JONES AND ALLEN (JENNI) BRAKE. MARY ATTENDED BISHOP DuBOURG HIGH SCHOOL WHERE SHE PLAYED VIOLIN AND WAS PRESIDENT OF THE PEP CLUB. AS A MEMBER SHE CONDUCTED TOURS OF CAMPUS, HOSTED TEAS FOR VISITING DIGNITARIES, HELPED WITH BLOOD DRIVES, USHERED AT HOME FOOTBALL GAMES, AND TOOK TICKETS AT HOME BASKETBALL GAMES.

SHE WORKED FOR MANY YEARS AT DUN & BRADSTREET AS AN OUTSIDE CREDIT REPORTER, WRITING REPORTS ON BUSINESSES IN THE AREA. SHE WAS ONLY THE SECOND WOMAN TO WORK OUTSIDE, AND THE FIRST TO WEAR PANTSUITS ON CALLS. SHE TOOK A BREAK FOR A WHILE TO TAKE CARE OF HER CHILDREN, AND THEN WORKED AS THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY AT SECOND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. SHE WORKED WITH THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS TO HELP MANAGE A SEVEN FIGURE ENDOWMENT, HANDLING INCOMING FUNDS, AND PRODUCING ALL FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS DURING THE YEAR. SHE THEN LEFT TO START A NEW BUSINESS WITH HER HUSBAND, GARY.

SHE AND HER HUSBAND STARTED NATIONAL PAGER SERVICES, A REPAIR SERVICE FOR THE WHOLESALE INDUSTRY. SHE SERVED AS VICE PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY, DOING ALL FINANCIAL REPORTS. SHE THEN BECAME THE VICE PRESIDENT OF DIAL-A-PAGE WHICH OPENED IN ST. LOUIS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DIAL-A-PAGE IN ARKANSAS. SHE EVENTUALLY MANAGED MOST OF THE GENERAL OPERATIONS WITH 35-40 EMPLOYEES AT ITS PEAK. THESE BUSINESSES RAN FOR 17 YEARS, UNTIL MARY RETIRED DUE TO ILLNESS.

OVER THE YEARS MARY WAS VERY ACTIVE IN HER CHURCH, ST. ROCH, HELPING WITH RUMMAGE SALES, TEACHING A CLASS AND MANAGING THE TWO BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS HELD THERE EACH YEAR. SHE ALSO COACHED AND MANAGED HER SON’S BASKETBALL TEAM WHILE HE WAS IN SCHOOL AND MANAGED HIS RACQUETBALL TEAM WHILE HE ATTENDED CBC. MARY WAS A GIRL SCOUT LEADER AT THE CADET LEVEL FOR OVER TEN YEARS. Charlie was born on August 20, 1934 to Charles C. and Helen C. Eddy (nee Hartmann). He was preceded in death by Rita F. Eddy (nee Coyle), his beloved wife of 59 years, and is survived by their five children Mark Eddy, Matthew Eddy (Jill), Julia Minden (Dan), Charles S. Eddy (Kelly), and Laurence Eddy (Vicki) along with 11 cherished grandchildren – Ethan, Stella, Danny, Addison, Emma, Henry, Charlie, Carson, Holly, Nicholas and Joshua. He also leaves younger sisters Carol Eddy and Mary Ellen Wescovich (Gene), sisters-in-law Judy Eddy and Mary Ellen Brown (Morris), aunts Julia Hartmann and Frances Lucas, many nieces, nephews and cousins, a large extended family, and countless friends. Charlie was also preceded in death by his parents and younger brother Robert Eddy. Born and raised in South St. Louis, Charlie graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1952 lettering in football. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War earning the National Defense Service Medal and Army Good Conduct Medal. Through the G.I. Bill, Charlie was able to enroll in night school at St. Louis University while working full-time to support his young family. He graduated from S.L.U. in 1964 with a Bachelors of Arts in History. After working in sales for over 25 years, Charlie realized a lifelong dream when he opened and successfully operated a family packing and shipping business with Rita for over a decade before their retirement in 2001. Charlie loved all sports, especially football and baseball, and often told stories of routinely taking streetcars as a young boy (sometimes alone) in the 1940s to watch Cardinal and Browns games in the old Sportsman’s Park at Grand Boulevard and Dodier Street. The Cardinals won nine World Series championships during Charlie’s lifetime, and he reveled in each one of them with family and friends. In addition to being an avid sports enthusiast, Charlie also enjoyed reading – particularly Civil War and World War II history, Big Band music, tending to his yard, working on cars, and he developed a fondness for fishing later in life. Charlie and Rita were devoted parishioners of Assumption-Mattese Catholic Church for over 40 years until his stroke in late 2018. Charlie considered his marriage and family to be the cornerstones of a life well lived. He will be sadly and profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him. Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for all of your love, prayers and continuing support throughout these difficult times. A live stream of Charlie’s funeral Mass with his family in attendance will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. C.S.T. at Assumption-Mattese Catholic Church. Please visit the live stream website at assumptionlive.com. Private burial at Resurrection Cemetery immediately following Mass. A special memorial Mass for extended family and friends will be held at Assumption on a future date to celebrate the lives of Charlie and Rita. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the de Greeff Hospice House or Assumption-Mattese Catholic Church appreciated.

Chase Daniel Waters

Chase Daniel Waters, 19, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020.  Chase leaves his parents, Gayla (Stone) Waters, Eric Waters, Jr., and Kathleen (Geiler) Waters, brothers Zachary and Jacob Waters, sisters Megan (Alex) Viehman and Chelsey Comia, grandparents James and Andrea Stone, and Eric Waters, Sr., his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephew.  Chase was also an “adopted” member of the Elwood family.  He was preceded in death by grandparents Joan (Blankenship) and John Hummert, as well as his infant brother Samuel.

Chase was a 2019 graduate of Fox High School where he excelled at football, basketball and track.  He was finishing his freshman year at Quincy University, majoring in Special Education, and was looking forward to hitting the field his sophomore year.  His ultimate goal was to give back to his community as a teacher and coach. Chase’s impish grin and ability to make us laugh were matched by his non-discriminating heart and humble nature.  You couldn’t help but love him and his silly sweetness.  Even if he made you mad, you couldn’t stay that way for long.  He loved his family, and extended family, madly, and wasn’t afraid to tell them.  He never parted ways or hung up the phone without telling you that he loved you.  His hugs were all-encompassing and full of the warmth from within him.  He always made time to help, willingly and willfully, expecting nothing in return.  Chase was genuine in his love, empathy, and concern for others. Chase gave his all in every sport he participated in; not to be the best, but to be his best.  His football family meant the world to him, especially his coaches, who he looked up to.  He never wanted to let anyone down and took any loss to heart. Chase brought love, joy, and light to so many lives. The size of the hole he has left in our family, our community, is immeasurable.  Instead of focusing on what Chase will never get to be, let’s focus on all that he was. In such a short time.

Services: Visitation at Kutis South County Funeral Home , 5255 Lemay Ferry Road,  on Monday, May 11, from 4-8 PM with private services.
