Beloved husband of Dolores A.  Bertels (nee Duesing) for 65½ years; father of David (Sharon), the late  Joseph E. Jr. (Peggy) and William (Patricia) Bertels; grandfather of Christine Wunder (Scott), Robert  Bertels, Jennifer LaPlant (Joe), Kayce Bertels, Katherine and Adam (Lan) Bertels; great-grandfather of Mira Wunder, Isabella Ansell, Joseph and Abigail LaPlant; son of the late George and Nellie (Bailey) Bertels; brother of the late Helen Vaughn, Gordian and Robert Bertels; brother-in-law of Marion Davis (the late  Norris) and Patricia Bertels; Godfather of Marietta Lauridsen, Patricia Kleinigger, Jeff Bertels and Michael Davis; uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Member of Seven Holy Founders Church since 1950. Member of American Legion Lemay Memorial Post #162. Past employee of International Shoe Co., Manufacture Supplies and SFS Associates. Volunteer for Liturgical Fabric Arts, Notre Dame High School and Nazareth Living Center.

Please no flowers. In lieu of flowers, donations to de Greeff Hospice House, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes, School Sisters of Notre Dame, Sisters of St. Joseph Carondelet, Seven Holy Founders Church, or Masses  appreciated.

Thanks to all the staff at Green Park Nursing Home, for the care he received, and St. Anthony’s Hospice Staff.

Services: Visitation at KUTIS AFFTON CHAPEL, 10151 Gravois Rd. on Thursday, February 11, 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., then taken to Seven Holy Founders Catholic Church for 11 a.m. Mass. Interment Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
